I just learned the difference between an arboretum and botanical garden-An arboretum specializes in trees or woody species while a botanical garden exhibits all plant life species. Since moving to a city, I gained an appreciation for both.

While I was in Seattle, I visited the Washington Park Arboretum and the adjoining Seattle Japanese Gardens. The arboretum is a joint project between the University of Washington, the Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Arboretum Foundation, and I’d describe it as a natural open air park with beautiful trees. Meandering through it on a sunny day is truly one of life’s pleasures.

The Seattle Japanese Garden is across the road from the Washington Park Arboretum and is regarded as one of the most authentic in the United States. This meticulously kept garden is stunning-I was overcome with a peaceful feeling while strolling through it. If you’re in Seattle, I high recommend visiting both places.

the Japanese garden
every Japanese garden I've visited had had a bridge
