Movie Reviews: “La La Land,” “Nocturnal Animals” and “Passengers”

  La La Land
  Rated PG-13

A jazz pianist and aspiring actress fall in love and their careers take off as a result.

La La Land is like a musical from the 1940’s, but even better due to current technology (better sound, cinematography, etc). The scenery is beautiful, the story is sweet and Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are talented and captivating. I highly recommend seeing La La Land.

   Nocturnal Animals
   Rated R

A wealthy galley owner receives a manuscript from her ex-husband that causes her to examine her past.

Nocturnal Animals is fascinating, mesmerizing and creepy. It’s also a bit confusing since the viewer doesn’t know if scenes are from the book or from the main character’s past. Visually stunning, Nocturnal Animals is a must-see film.

Rated PG-13

On a 120-year long journey to another planet, Jim is awoken from hypersleep 90 years too early and is forced to figure out how to solve this dilemma.

Although the movie is very different from what the preview leads one to believe, we loved Passengers. I don’t want to say anything more about it because it would spoil the movie.
