Movie Reviews: Prisoners and Rush

Prisoners
Rated R

Leading an all star cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Terence Howard, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano, Hugh Jackman stars as Keller Dover, an anguished father whose daughter is missing under suspicious circumstances.  Detective Loki quickly arrests Alex Jones (Paul Dano) but is forced to release him for lack of evidence.  When Keller takes things into his own hands, is he seeking justice or merely a vigilante?

Because I'm a mother, this film make me wonder what I would do if I were in the same situation.  To be honest, I don't know what I'm capable of and really don't want to know. Though I found none of the characters particularly likable, the film is well done and worth seeing.

Rush
Rated R

Rush is based on the real-life rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl).  Englishman Hunt is a playboy who lives large and drives recklessly, while Austrian Lauda is a meticulous perfectionist who drives with technical precision.  Will their rivalry have deadly consequences, and if it doesn’t who will be the victor?

It surprised me how much I liked this movie, mainly because I'm not into racing.  I loved it, though, and couldn’t wait to see how the movie ended.  The cinematography of the race sequences is amazing, and, frankly, it's worth the price of admission just to see Chris Hemsworth!
